Located
in the Leeward Islands,
which form a part of
the Lesser Antilles
islands in the Caribbean
Sea, the island of Montserrat,
covers about 16 km long
and 11 km in width,
the exposure of a coastline
40 km. Christopher Columbus
is the person using
the name of Montserrat
during his second New
World voyage in 1493.
Most of the time, Montserrat
is known as the Emerald
Isle in the Caribbean
because of its appearance
coastal part of Ireland
and also because of
the Irish origin of
most of its European
settlers. All of Montserrat
is a huge tourist attraction.
You will have an embarrassment
of choices for places
to visit to Montserrat.
Places to visit in Montserrat
are spread over the
whole island.
Plymouth,
the capital was also
a place important to
Montserrat, but it was
devastated by the sudden
eruption of the Soufriere
paused once volcano.
The eruption began on
July 18, 1995 and continues
today. Nearly two-thirds
of the island's population
was forced to emigrate
abroad. The destruction
took place around the
outskirts of Plymouth
some of its port facilities
and the (former) WH
Bramble Airport. A portion
of the island, which
stretches from the southern
coast of Montserrat,
north of the Belham
Valley was limited because
of the changeover to
increase the size of
the existing volcanic
peak. This area includes
the hills of St. George
who is loved by visitors
from all over the world.
The St. George hills
provide a splendid view
of the volcanic peak
and a glimpse of the
devastation he has written
on the face of the capital.
The new airport by Gerald
's was opened in 2005
to serve tourists who
visit Montserrat.
